LEARN TO PLAY THE PIANO
with Pamela Rose
From increasing your child’s IQ to warding off Alzheimers, not forgetting introducing something beautiful and creative to your life - the piano is pretty spectacular!
Students of all ages and standards learn with me. My teaching integrates the learning of music practically, aurally and visually from the first lessons. Learning in this way enables students to become independent musicians and to have a lifelong enjoyment of music.
Experienced as an ABRSM Theory Examiner, I also have a special focus on Grade 5 Theory and enabling a deeper understanding of what we hear and play. So whether you, or your child, would like to start, or pick up from intermediate or advanced levels, please get in touch.
Lessons are held at my studio in South West London.
Online lessons for piano or theory are also available.
This video course, where I teach the theory of music at the piano so you can see it, hear it and play it, is not only for those wishing to be successful with grade 5 music theory but also for anyone wishing to develop a greater musical understanding.
About Pamela Rose
After studying at the Royal College of Music, Pamela Rose played piano and sang for Hilton and Intercontinental Hotels around the world and was the resident pianist/singer on the QEII. Since 2000, teaching music has been her vocation, focus and passion. She has experience as an ABRSM Theory examiner and students of all ages and standards learn with her.
Her teaching integrates the learning of music practically, aurally and visually from the first lessons and is based on the premise that connecting our understanding of music we play aurally and visually creates independent and well rounded musicians and ensures a place for music throughout our lives.
“I remember how I felt in my first lesson. I felt it saved me in some way. Pamela made me feel more confident than I'd ever felt. Getting a merit for my first exam when I'd felt so hopeless before I met Pamela was one of the nicest things. I enjoyed that first lesson so much, I had so much fun, and felt SO much more comfortable with Pamela, who was patient, encouraging and kind. With Pamela I never imagined having another teacher. And that was the distinction.”
“Pamela is a patient, dedicated and experienced piano tutor. I started learning last year (2021) and as an adult that's a daunting prospect. Pamela tailors the lesson specifically to me and manages to challenge, support and encourage me all at the same time. It's one of the most rewarding things I've had the opportunity to do and recommend Pamela’s teaching to anyone.”
“Dear Pamela,
Despite having no prior experience in music theory, your course provided the basis I needed. I have just passed my grade 5 theory - with a distinction at 91%! So thank you for everything and saving my teacher a lot of stress!”
“Some of my students are second study pianists who already have Grade 5 theory but still do not really understand a lot of it (presumably they scraped through with a low passmark). I find that if I demonstrate on the piano while they listen and they then have the opportunity to 'play' the theory it's all so much easier. Recently I discovered an excellent, new online resource (www.learngrade5theory.org) that does the above using video. “
“Excellent course! My daughter and I have been going through the videos and listening to them and practising. I was amazed at how affordable the course was while still providing such a wealth of information, many thanks…”
“I decided to go ahead and buy the course and am already pleased I have. I did grade 5 theory 35 years ago and now my 12 year old son is studying for it before he can take his grade 6 piano exam. He sat through some of your lessons tonight and came over and hugged me and thanked me for buying your course!!! That says it all”
Yes, you will. Either a piano or a keyboard will be good. If it’s a keyboard, a full size one is best with 7 octaves or 52 white notes.
If your child knows the first 7 letters of the English Alphabet and has a basic understanding of maths insofar as 1 is half of 2, then they are ready to start piano lessons. On average, this will around the age of 6 years.
It’s important to play every day, even if for a short while. Try to focus on what we are learning in the lessons as well :)
At the moment, my oldest student is 74. There is no cut off age, so if you would like to learn then you are definitely not too old. My lessons will be tailor made to suit you.
The lessons are structured in numerical order so you build up your knowledge step by step. The best way is to go through each video as many times as you like and make sure you’re completely secure with what you’ve learned in each lesson before going on to the next.
These lessons are for all instrumentalists, vocalists and anyone wanting to understand music. The piano’s pattern of black and white keys show most clearly how music is laid out, making it the best way to enable musical understanding.
As these sessions are going in at the grade 5 level, you’ll need some musical knowledge. Please watch out for video blogs and further updates for other levels.
